Design of a Two-Room Apartment
With a standard layout, you can and should fight: whether through wall demolition and new structural solutions or with bright and practical design.
With a standard layout, you can and should fight: whether through wall demolition and new structural solutions or with bright and practical design. Whether it's the design of a two-room apartment of type P-44T, housing in buildings of series КОПЭ, P-46 or P-111M. Practice has shown that a standard layout for residents is often inconvenient. And here's how you can transform it.
If you don't have the opportunity to order an individual design project or simply don't have time to wait for half a year until the designer can provide you with drawings and 3D visualization of the project, use the standard form for most typical apartments (available freely on the Internet).

Scheme 1 — Furniture Placement Plan
The above design of a two-room apartment in a building of series P-44T does not assume any changes to the standard layout.
Entrance Hall. The proposed interior design of a two-room apartment does not involve any bold solutions: everything is very simple and, once again, standard. In the entrance hall, there is a coat rack with a storage unit for shoes and small household items. A bulky coat rack, ideally, can be safely replaced with wall-mounted hooks, and the impractical unit underneath can be substituted with a soft and visually pleasant footstool.

A pleasant detail in the entrance hall is a chalkboard for notes and reminders: no more need to drill holes in the wall with buttons or search for a magnet to stick a note on the refrigerator.

Corridor. For proper spatial organization in a narrow and long corridor, avoid swinging doors in both the inter-room space and furniture located in this room. It is more logical to use sliding doors, or as a last resort install swinging doors so they open inward into the rooms rather than toward the corridor.

Kitchen. In this apartment, the kitchen is smaller than a typical 'Brezhnev-style' one, but still spacious enough to accommodate the entire kitchen suite and a small dining table, as well as organize a cozy relaxation zone in the alcove.

Living Room. You may or may not afford a separate bedroom, but a sleeping area in the living room can come in handy: if not for you, then for your guests. A workspace on the balcony next to the living room is convenient to place there, though you should first take care of insulating the balcony.

Child's Room. A room for a child in an apartment with such layout is quite spacious and has enough space to organize a full sleeping, working, and play area.

Bathroom. For the shared living of three or more people, a combined bathroom, despite any advantages this reconfiguration might bring to the apartment, is an impractical solution. Especially if the residents have similar daily routines: for example, two parents and a schoolchild need to wake up at the same time to get to work and arrive on time for school, which can cause difficulties in using the bathroom in the morning. Therefore, think twice before demolishing a wall.
