Design Project of a Two-Room Apartment
To create an atmosphere of comfort at home, designers and psychologists often recommend avoiding the use of bright colors in interior design: either limiting yourself to bright accents or using pastel tones.
To create an atmosphere of comfort at home, designers and psychologists often recommend avoiding the use of bright colors in interior design: either limiting yourself to bright accents or using pastel tones. We present you the design project of a two-room apartment—a unique exception from all possible rules: it is not only a bold color solution, but also an unconventional reconfiguration of a standard "two-room" flat.

Design Project of a Two-Room Apartment P-44T: Color Is Not an Obstacle to Coziness!
Designer: Natalia Vasileva, a graduate of the Moscow School of Applied Arts (painting department), combines the work of an artist and a designer. Apartment: 2-room, building series P-44T. The client's wishes: an interior with the use of vibrant color solutions.

The existing layout of the rooms could not be altered, as most of the partitions in the apartment are load-bearing and only the partitions between the kitchen and the bathroom were eligible for demolition. As you can see in the photo above, the designer did not miss the opportunity to expand the small bathroom: the area of the bathroom was increased at the expense of the corridor. The larger room of the apartment was divided into a living room and a child's room.
This project stands out by the fact that it does not involve complex structural solutions: the sliding door allowed to focus on color as an accent.

Photo 2 — Pay attention to the color combination. The red textured wall with upper backlight under a blue cornice highlights a contrasting soft yellow sofa and the same color of the skirting board
At first glance, the elements of interior design may seem unharmonious: too contrasted is the design. Look closer: the dark, bright red wall is offset by white light under the cornice—this is a point of reference to the white walls in the room, and the same applies to colorful cushions on the yellow sofa, bright pictures, and glass pendant lights. Each detail of this interior ties it all together.
Moreover, there is no door between the rooms when entering from the corridor, also decorated in red.
Therefore, this eye-catching room serves as the color center of the two-room apartment, combining almost all the colors used in the interior: from white and soft blue to yellow and red.

Photo 3 — Here is the child's room we mentioned earlier. Even though the colors in this room are more subdued, it does not look duller for that
Regarding the adult bedroom (shown in the photo below), it also does not avoid vibrant colors. However, just as in the case of the living room decoration, a bright accent (red color) was placed only on one wall, and the room is balanced by soft beige tones and subdued lighting, slightly dulling the finish of the opposite wall.

Photo 4 — Bedroom Interior. Subtle and Vibrant
Red is the main bright color used in this design project. In the 'two-room', it can be found in a soft cream tone, muted burgundy, and even vivid scarlet.

Photo 5 — The room layout allows placing the washbasin by the window
In the entrance hall, the designer decided to experiment not only with color but also with shape: at the entrance, we are greeted by a cabinet with rounded doors, and on the opposite wall, a mirror with rounded corners is hung in harmony with it. The straight lines from the entrance door continue in suspended cabinets, a console table, and a sideboard.
