Want your large living room to convey balance? Choose a focal point around which the room's decor will be built. In this space, an interior designer chose an abstract painting in black and white tones. Around it, he furnished the living room with two white sofas, a coffee table, a couple of armchairs and a footstool, forming an ideal square.

...or a bright-colored fireplace

Besides canvases, other elements can serve as a starting point for decorating a large room. Architectural features — beams, columns, baseboards, bookshelves or a fireplace also represent standout areas. In this XL room, the interior designer chose a fireplace and side shelves as the focal point. Its bright green lacquer plays an important role. Around it, the living room was completed with two sofas, a large wooden coffee table and an upholstered armchair.

Have a large storage area (not necessarily books)

Another advantage of having a spacious living room is designing full-width wall storage. You can use it to store dishes, tablecloths or as a bookshelf if you enjoy reading on paper. This is what was done in this room: several magnificent wooden shelves were created and the window dividing them was turned into a pleasant bench with a drawer.

Choose multiple coffee tables

Your spacious living room with two or three sofas requires a large coffee table so everyone can reach it. Another very original option is to use multiple coffee tables which add visual lightness. You can choose a 'nest' type, made from the same material but different sizes and expand them as needed. That's what the designer did here. Or choose all different but with a common thread: shape, material or color.

Create an additional corner for everything you need

More advantages of a large room? You can divide it into several zones: a living area for watching TV, a small conversation room, dining area, workspace... The designer created a pleasant reading nook by the window next to the living room. For its setup, he chose a comfortable armchair, a floor lamp and a side table for books.

Add auxiliary furniture to your large living room

A short list of basic furniture for a mini-living room significantly expands if space is not an issue. Sideboards, dressers, coffee tables, footstools... will be appreciated as long as they are needed and contribute. Don't fill your living room with unnecessary elements. On this image, the interior designer placed a console under the window and several auxiliary tables next to the sofa. All three objects share common designs, wood and metal to match the coffee table and fireplace. They add lightness and dynamism.

Prefer organic shapes

What is it, you ask? Organic shapes are those with irregular, fantasy silhouettes and often attempt to imitate natural forms (clouds, trees, mountains...). Now apply this principle to decorating your large living room. How? By choosing curved furniture with original designs that won't leave anyone indifferent. Armchairs, coffee tables, floor lamps or even kettles, vases and baseboards — good examples of this in the living room image. Thanks to their presence, a relaxed and cozy atmosphere is achieved.
