Single-Family House with Pool by EASST Architects
The house with courtyards was built in densely populated suburban areas of Poznan. The relatively small plot of around 1700 m² was fully utilized from an urban planning perspective.
Since the house is designed for an elderly couple, all main functions are located on the first floor, while the second floor is intended for visits from family members. The dense development and busy street prompted us to design a house with two courtyards that provide residents with privacy and tranquility. The first courtyard is the front courtyard, formed by a large canopy with vertical latticed elements that hide the house from the street. 11-meter beams serve as an additional partition between the house and the street space. At the same time, the second courtyard is a relaxation zone next to the living room and internal pool. It provides shelter from neighboring plots. Each courtyard is equipped with green plantings reminiscent of Japanese gardens.

The living room has a height of 1.5 floors. The upper line of windows provides additional lighting without the risk of overheating thanks to projecting eaves. The rest of the glazing is also protected from excessive sunlight by flat roof overhangs. The terrace relaxation area is covered with an automatic canopy with blinds that close at the start of rain, allowing residents to use the garden in bad weather. The pool is equipped with horizontal sliding glazing totaling 12 meters in length. When the window modules slide to the sides, they create an 8-meter-wide space.
The house facades are covered with sintered ceramic tiles using a ventilated facade system. Flat roofs are used wherever possible to ensure the efficiency of the photovoltaic installation. There are also ducts (one for the pool area), equipped with a heat recovery system.
The interiors are designed in a moderate style. Many furniture elements and wall finishes are custom-made to order. Other elements such as kitchen cabinets, wardrobes, sofas, chairs, tables and beds come from well-known Italian furniture brands.
