How to Clean the Bathroom in Simple Steps
Bathroom cleaning is essential during home cleaning. Among the tasks that exist during general cleaning, the bathroom is a room that requires the most attention. It accumulates bacteria and microbes that can harm your family's health. Therefore, keeping the bathroom clean is extremely important.
To perform this task as simply as possible, here are seven steps you should learn once and for all to know how to properly clean the bathroom.
Step One — Clearing the Room
PinterestWhen starting bathroom cleaning, remove everything that may interfere with the process. Remove the trash can, towels, mats, and laundry basket if present. Take out shampoo, conditioner, and sponge from the bathtub. Also remove items from the cabinet such as toothbrushes, hair, razor, creams and lotions.
A clear path — begin cleaning the bathroom from top to bottom, leaving the floor for last. Take a sponge, cleaning brush, clean cloth, broom, bucket with water, bleach and detergent. Now start cleaning the walls.
Step Two — Cleaning the Walls
A good cleaning mixture for the bathroom is water, bleach and detergent. Detergent is very effective in bathroom cleaning because it helps remove grease and dirt from tiles. Prepare this solution and moisten the cloth. For areas closer to the floor within reach, simply use a clean cloth, sponge or brush to remove greasy stains and dirt. Thoroughly wipe the tiles up to the ceiling. Don't forget the corners from above. If you can't reach some high spots, use a broom as an extension to finish cleaning the walls. Just wrap a cloth around the broom and wipe where needed.
If this small cleaning mixture for a dirty bathroom based on bleach, water and detergent doesn't give the desired results, you can use a product that doesn't require mixing for bathroom cleaning and is always recommended: chlorine.
If the contamination is too strong, apply chlorine all over the bathroom walls and leave it for several minutes. This product helps not only fight dirt but also bacteria and microbes that can settle between tiles, in grout lines, as well as drain holes. After a few minutes, wipe the walls with a sponge or cloth to remove excess chlorine. Use a shower hose for rinsing. If you don't have a hose, use a bucket of water or a damp cloth.
Well wiped and rinsed, use a dry cloth for the final drying of the walls and proceed to the next step. If you don't have a shower cabin, no worries. One cleaning item less. Then skip the next step and move on.
Step Three — Cleaning the Shower Cabin
PinterestShower cabins can vary in physical structure. Differences between them that may exist in a bathroom include glass, plastic curtains and matte acrylic. Here you will learn how to clean each type of cabin during bathroom cleaning.
- Glass shower — to clean a bathroom with a glass shower, simply use the same water, bleach and detergent mixture used earlier to clean the glass walls of the shower cabin. Use the same towel or sponge to wipe the entire length of the glass and finish with a clean dry cloth.
If you prefer bleach, simply apply it to the glass exactly as done on the wall. But this time no waiting is needed. As soon as you apply bleach to the shower cabin glass, you can immediately wipe it with a damp cloth, then dry.
- Acrylic cabin — products such as bleach and kerosene, which are sometimes used for bathroom cleaning, can remove stains from an acrylic cabin. Avoid them. Prefer detergents.
Dilute a little detergent in water and wipe the acrylic cabin with a cloth. Then wipe with a damp cloth without detergent, and finish with a dry cloth.
- Plastic curtain — with a plastic curtain, the process is similar to the initial wall cleaning. It's part of the path clearing stage. Therefore, remove the curtain for cleaning.
The curtain can be washed in a machine but use a delicate wash cycle. For better cleaning of the plastic curtain, use a cup of vinegar, laundry detergent and a cup of baking soda. No need to wait for it to dry completely before putting it back in the bathroom. After washing, hang the curtain back in the cabin and let it air dry naturally.
A homemade bathroom cleaning product can be replaced based on availability and necessity. In some cases, instead of bleach, for example, vinegar can be used as shown above in cleaning the plastic curtain. Additionally, vinegar is less aggressive and also helps fight microbes, bacteria even fungi.
Step Four — To the Floor
PinterestFor the floor, the process is simpler. Just use a solution intended for wall cleaning on the floor, scrubbing with a broom. Don't forget corners, behind the toilet, behind the door if there's a shower rail, under the sink or countertop. Rinse with water and remove excess water into the drain. Use a dry cloth to finish and don't leave the floor too wet.
Leave the bathroom door and window open to allow air circulation and let the bathroom dry naturally.
