Shenzhen Yeahka C4 Office Project by JSPA Design in Shenzhen, China
The main office project involved the renovation of a three-story building within an office complex in Shenzhen with a total area of 6,000 m2.
The design process began with removing all unnecessary cladding and decorations to return the building structure to its original state.
Then, a possibility was created to expand part of the space vertically by adding more natural light and connecting all three floors.
On the middle floor, the entrance unifies all public functions of the project: reception, café, event space and product exhibition area. It is organized as a long transparent strip that allows for a full view from one end of the building to the other. The geometry of space is emphasized by a long reception desk facing the facade, behind which cactus landscaping filters the outside view.
The main entrance area is also extended vertically through a large opening in the ceiling covering three structural spans. Five meeting rooms are placed within protruding structures, like glass boxes floating in the reception zone. They create a sense of instability and form a strong spatial experience for visitors. Workstations are hidden from public view, but these suspended meeting rooms serve as a showcase of current office workflows. This creates an interesting interaction between visual connection and physical distance between visitors and office staff.

The common area also serves as a void across three floors that becomes the main vertical axis of the project. The staircase is created as a sculptural element composed of two L-shaped structures overlapping each other, seemingly floating from floor to floor without intermediate support. Its apparent weight contrasts with the lack of visible construction, creating a sense of airiness.
Office workspaces are organized in small units. Similar glass boxes, housing meeting rooms or managers' private offices, are used to divide the workspace into comfortable open zones.
For materials we chose concrete blocks typically used as a covering for public outdoor spaces, bringing them inside the office environment. Through design, this standard material becomes an interesting surface within the interior. It creates floors for common areas and continues vertically along walls. Its rough texture, highlighted by lighting, contrasts with very smooth materials such as glass, mirrored finishes or stainless steel.
