First Option: Favoring Parents

In the example below, two rooms are organized from one room: a child's room and parents' bedroom. Additionally, space is allocated for guests and family time together.

Designer Olga Sushko in this project suggests separating the parents' bedroom from the common area by organizing a platform niche and covering it with a dense curtain or using a folding screen.

The space under the platform can be designated for storage of bedding, children's toys, household items that cannot harm a child if the child accidentally pushes out a drawer.

The advantage of this furniture layout is that a small child, during restless nights, often cries to wake up mom and dad. In such cases, a folding sofa placed next to the bed serves a good purpose.

Second Option: Everything Best for the Kids!

In the second variant of re-planning, the desired corner is given to the child, while parents must make do with a folding sofa, combining the bedroom and living room zone. For entertaining guests, there is still a spacious kitchen with a table and side chairs.

While the child is small and family budget is limited, a screen or curtain can be used to separate the space. For older children, something more substantial will be needed to close off the play or work area.

A double bed, of course, is far better than a folding sofa. However, living on a folding sofa, as they say, is also possible: this furniture serves two functions and saves space. Isn't that the main concern in a one-room apartment? Modern soft folding furniture is a worthy choice for those who want to sleep and rest comfortably.

As an option, you could place a lift-up double bed at home. However, not every one-room apartment can accommodate such a folding system.

The interior of a one-room apartment for a family with a child is built on compromises. The comfort of 16 m² is achieved not so much by correct furniture arrangement as by family relationships.

Think about what is more important to you: organizing a full bedroom for two people and providing a comfortable space for a newborn (first layout variant) or giving the child their own cozy corner and not worrying about the child's sleep in the designated children's room.

If the topic is organizing space for four people—two children and parents—the best option is to use wall height. For example, placing beds in multiple tiers.
