House San Bartolomeu by Sonia Cruz Architecture

The House San Bartolomeu is located in the central part of the city of Aveiro, bordering its historic center – Barro Baixa-Mar. The street named after the house creates a transition between single-story houses and four-story apartment buildings.

Near services, trade, fire department, school, and local government, the surrounding environment expresses local characteristics through contact with modern materials and languages. In such a context, the building, which is a new intervention, repeats and reinterprets the features of the place through the rhythm of windows and material finishes.

The volumetric form was established by municipal services to facilitate the transition from the historical zone to a newer construction area.

The building is divided into two T2-type houses with a private courtyard. Due to the small size of the plot, the organization of internal space aimed to optimize construction area and value its connection with the rear garden.

The interiors of the houses reflect their central location in the city, with practical and functional rooms. The materials used in the project, in addition to their contextual characteristics, effectively respond to modern life with high quality and finish.
