How to Make Pink Terrazzo

So, how to get the perfect pink tone on terrazzo? For floors there are two options: prepare a mixture from scratch or use a ready-made mix.

To make the mixture from scratch, start by mixing cement mortar and pigment. In this case it is recommended to use fine powder made from iron oxide that is resistant to UV and UVB rays, which prevents fading over time. Pigment is available in colors: blue, green, yellow, red, black and brown. Depending on which pink shade you want to achieve, you will need red and a little brown. Another important point is the cement: it's better to buy it white if you don't want to get a grayish-pink finish.

Thoroughly mix the cement and pigment to achieve the desired shade. Then separate part of this dry mixture. In another part, add sand and then water. With a ready-made mix, simply stir the pigment and then add water.

In any case you will know that you have reached the desired result if you press the mixture in your hand and it does not crumble or leak.

For terrazzo walls made from plaster or ready-made mix, preparation is simpler: just add a little water to the plaster. Then add powdered or liquid pigment (wider color options are available, including pink).

How to Apply Pink Terrazzo

To apply pink terrazzo on the floor, it is important to first level the base well. Remove all defects or dirt from the floor surface. Then install expansion joints, which will prevent cracking of the floor during drying (and also when the ambient temperature changes). Spread the terrazzo mixture over the floor and level the surface using a trowel, then with a straightedge.

Then it's time to 'fire' the terrazzo. This is simply to sprinkle a mixture of cement and pigment (which you previously separated) over the wet mass. Then the mixture should dry for at least 72 hours before moving to the final stage: floor waterproofing done with acrylic resin.

It seems like the macaroni process is simpler. Just use a trowel with a little mixture and spread it on a clean, flat surface. Apply the mixture in semicircular and quick movements to achieve the effect of terrazzo spots. Let it dry for the time indicated by the manufacturer.
