Located in the tranquil rhythms of Huizhou, China, the Poetic Garden by BDSD Boundless Design is a private club spanning 330 m² that gracefully blurs the boundary between architecture and emotion. Created in May 2022 and completed in March 2024, the project combines spatial elegance, natural elements, and immersive integration of products into a living, breathing history of design.

More Than an Exhibition

The client for the Shenhui Customization project, Poetic Garden is not just a typical showroom but a space for experience. Designed to showcase comprehensive home design within context, the project balances functionality, emotion, and art. The interior space of 150 m² opens to a landscape garden of 180 m², creating a continuous perception of architecture, nature, and tranquility.

Spatial Strategy: Garden Path

BDSD draws inspiration from traditional Chinese garden paths, where mystery and rhythm guide visitors forward. The layout includes winding corridors, shifting perspectives, and carefully selected displays. Light filters through frosted glass and black metal grilles, while sculptures and plant compositions animate the journey.

Lead Designer Lin Wenge explains that the name "Poetic Garden" symbolizes not only a spatial form but also an emotional resonance of space—evoking calm, imagination, and refined luxury.

Emotional Design in a Post-Pandemic World

Considering post-coronavirus sentiments, Poetic Garden responds to the renewed need for quiet and contemplative spaces. Semi-transparent partitions, shadow effects, and layered lighting create a soft, slow atmosphere, a setting that invites visitors to pause, feel, and reconnect.

From the entrance mezzanine to the central tea room, the design uses dark materials, framed panoramas, and serene furniture to enhance the sensory experience.

Harmony of Art and Functionality

Throughout the space, art meets utility:

  • Dining Area: Dark tones enhance calmness.

  • Wine Tasting Zone: Frosted glass and ceiling lights create evening elegance.

  • Kitchen and Living Room: Minimalist compositions allow light and form to take center stage.

  • Tea Room: Inspired by Tanizaki's 'Praise of Shadows', it uses soft lighting and warm textures to amplify peace and poetry.

Mid-century modern furniture, low walls, and strategic lighting infuse the space with an eternal yet cozy character.

Garden: Nature as a Design Partner

Outside, the garden draws inspiration from the minimalist zen aesthetics of Ryōan-ji Temple. Carefully composed with stones, sand, bamboo, moss, and pine, the design offers not only beauty but symbolism—an invitation to explore the balance between nature and humanity.

This poetic landscape becomes a canvas for reflection, a frame for nature as both backdrop and protagonist in daily life.
