Paterson 3 by AR43 Architects

The Paterson 3 project is a fantastic modern residential development consisting of two unique corner blocks. It is located within walking distance of the busy Orchard Road in Singapore and was designed by the architectural studio AR43. We recently featured another one of their projects, so be sure to check out the 21 Jervois Hill project.

Paterson 3 includes two uniquely designed corner terraced blocks. Although they are near the bustling Orchard Road, each block is situated in a quiet and cozy corner on Langkok Angs.

The design emphasizes the connection between interior and exterior spaces using full-height glass windows and large sliding panels. The interplay of elements such as wooden cladding, panoramic glass, and dark metal details unifies this area into a contemporary art-oriented facade. Each block features clean, clearly defined lines and an open layout with a courtyard. This allows abundant tropical sunlight to penetrate the living areas. Each of these spaces maintains user privacy.

The courtyard/water feature was designed into the block layout, creating a transition between front and rear zones. This allows for stepping stones and a playful bridge connection within the courtyard space. A covered rooftop terrace is necessary not only for housing growing trees but also to provide outdoor relaxation areas under the visibility of stars and the urban landscape.

The large overhanging roof above the courtyard provides natural lighting for the three-story open spaces below while maintaining shelter.  The courtyard is covered with a glass roof and filtered by an aluminum mesh covering, offering rain protection while allowing soft light to nourish the green wall along the boundary wall and the featured tree below.

Natural wood cladding, hanging bridges, green walls, a covered garden, and water features were integrated into the project to enhance a joyful tropical lifestyle in a densely built urban environment.
