Modernist Inspiring Idea and Minimalist Ethics

Built by TIM Arquitectos, the Pekin house in Larés, Argentina is an exquisite example of minimalist modernism. Completed in 2023, this 1603 square foot home reflects the studio's core principles: clean lines, unadorned facades, rational planning and skillful use of glass and concrete.

The project is part of a broader area development inspired by the spirit of rationalist architecture. It resembles the experimental Ocho al Cubo in Chile, where architects designed houses without clients as part of a collective laboratory. The Pekin House explores the idea of architecture as a pure form, independent yet in harmony with its environment.

Spatial Clarity and Architectural Principles

The house is defined by its two distinct planes: one solid and blind, the other entirely glass. Together they create a dynamic tension between privacy and transparency. Extensive overhangs extend outward, visually lightening the structure and shading the social zone's glass walls. The house appears to float above the ground, emphasizing its modernist aesthetic.

Inside the 150 m² program is carefully divided:

  • Three main rooms, including two bedrooms

  • A separate kitchen, designed to function independently from the living and dining areas

  • A social space, presented as the heart of the project where glass walls, exposed concrete roof and minimalist furniture unite to create a calm yet lively gathering area

This functional separation—especially between the kitchen and social zone—emphasizes the architects' pursuit of comfort optimization and clarity, allowing each area to fully embody its role.

Material Palette and Atmosphere

The Pekin House heavily relies on the modernist movement's material vocabulary:

  • Exposed concrete provides structural honesty and strength

  • Glass walls maintain a constant dialogue with the outside world

  • Wooden finishes bring warmth and contrast

The result is a home that seems simultaneously light, rational and timeless, rooted in modernist tradition but adapted to contemporary life.

Floating Modernist Sanctuary

More than just a house, the Pekin House embodies architecture as purity. Its rationalist lines, geometric precision and thoughtfully chosen materials create a dwelling that celebrates both form and function. By elevating the social space as the central design element, TIM Arquitectos ensured the house fosters community, openness and balance.
