House Ovecler Kankaya by Aura Design Studio
The House Ovecler Kankaya building was designed by Aura Design Studio with the needs of residents in mind as a public center, and thanks to its landscape design, façade, and functional layout it possesses various spatial characteristics. It has a simple yet rich façade language as well as landscape design adapted to the scale of the area.
House Ovecler Kankaya is located at the entrance to the Ovecler park zone within Ankara metro and at the intersection of Salcym Sogut Street and 136th Street. The building has a land area of 1242 m² and consists of two basements, one first floor, and one second floor.
The main entrance to the building has two entrances from the same street located at the upper level of 1361 Street. The program for this public building includes a library, hobby and personal development workshops, and a multi-purpose hall. Thanks to the effective use of existing topography, not only does each façade of the building present a different number of floors but also allows for multiple entrances from different levels.
Since the building is located at the corner of a public park, it is surrounded by green zones which draw the structure into a natural environment, separating it from urban hustle and construction noise while also enabling open and beautiful views.
From the south side, the building appears two-storied; from the east it looks three-storied (where the main entrance), and from the north and west sides, four-storied. Thanks to the functional use of topography, reading the building from different levels on each façade enriches its perception. This differing interpretation of floor numbers allows the building to be compatible both with residential development and urban scale.
Angled walls were used on the façades to provide controlled lighting for spaces, create different perceptions of the façade from various angles, and generate visual illusions. The angled walls are designed with aluminum frame windows and panels with a corten effect. The anthracite color and corten in window frames together create varying façade perceptions from different angles. White cladding, aluminum-framed windows and doors with corten panels are used on the façades.
The multi-purpose hall located in the basement meets the needs of residents for a large internal public space. Events such as mourning gatherings, sports events, exhibitions, meetings and discussions are planned in this hall. A separate entrance to the multi-purpose hall was organized with consideration for height differences on façades, which facilitates movement within the building.
The building was designed with the needs of all its users in mind, so it includes special entrances for disabled people, parking spaces, toilets and a large elevator as part of the design configuration.
