HUKET, Thailand (October 14, 2021) – The Meliá Phuket Mai Khao resort, located on eight acres of the northwest coast of Phuket with views over the azure Andaman Sea, will open in December.

The Mai Khao Beach resort, which overlooks the longest pedestrian zone on Phuket, is close to many attractions such as Sirinat National Park, the Mai Khao Sea Turtle Conservation Fund and Wat Phra Thong temple. Phuket Airport is just a 15-minute drive away.

Thailand plans to open fully vaccinated tourists from low-risk countries on November 1.

Developed by Meliá Hotels International and owned by leading Thai residential real estate company Phuket Villa Group, the five-star resort is part of Meliá's expansion in key destinations in Thailand such as Koh Samui, Chiang Mai and Bangkok.

The new resort features saltwater pools, private villa pools, a lake with underwater relaxation zones, water gardens, vertical waterfalls and misting systems that create a restorative atmosphere. The overall design reflects modern aesthetics and traditional Thai elements.

Modern, bright, and spacious Mediterranean rooms include 30 one-bedroom suites and 70 one-bedroom villas designed for two adults and two children. All rooms feature outdoor baths, open showers, and spacious terraces.

78 sqm suites come with cabanas, while 85 sqm one-bedroom villas have private pools. Fifteen 'cabana villas' feature open showers with vitamin C, daily massages, ultrasonic essential oil diffusers, GermGuardian air purifiers, Tempur-Pedic pillows, a fitness ball and yoga mat.

Meliá Phuket Mai Khao showcases diverse culinary culture through four establishments. Adjacent to the beach pool with cabanas and loungers, elegant Gaia Beach Club is 'the place to be.' Rooted in Spanish heritage, Meliá's Gaia celebrates famous Spanish cuisine, offering Mediterranean and fusion dishes from an open kitchen and a unique cocktail selection at the long bar.

Elegant SASA specializes in Southeast Asian cuisine. A warm and cozy space with wooden finishes, SASA offers daily exquisite dinners in the evenings. Elyxr Café offers fresh juices and local beverages.

With shaded shrubs, the resort's design uses a neutral color palette in addition to Mai Khao’s sandy shore. High ceilings, floor-to-ceiling glass panels and decorative metal screens use natural surroundings and sunlight.

At 300 sqm, the main spa salon YHI Spa includes five treatment rooms. In addition to an extensive menu of massages, facials, scrubs and wraps, therapists also offer services by the pool and in rooms.

The fitness center is equipped with treadmills, elliptical trainers, stationary bikes and weight equipment. The Kidsdom kids' room offers fun workshops for children.

An ideal location for weddings and events, the resort's conference halls include a large ballroom and two additional multi-purpose spaces. Event planners offer personalized service and mini mindfulness sessions.

"Thanks to our partnership with Spain's leading hotel group, we are grateful for the opportunity to significantly contribute to Phuket’s recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic by creating much-needed jobs for the local tourism sector and setting a new standard of hospitality on Thailand's largest island," said Mr. Maetapong Upathising, General Director of Phuket Villa Group.

"With its beauty and tranquility, there is no better place on the water than Mai Khao Beach," said Miss Magdalena Martorell, General Manager of Meliá Phuket Mai Khao. "We look forward to revealing a resort defined by exceptional customer wellness attention with sunny Spanish hospitality and Meliá's passion for service."
