Loft for a Family from Amsterdam18 photos
Architects Studio Appelo transformed a garage space into a residential loft in Amsterdam, Netherlands. On an area of 115 square meters, they created all the necessary conditions for a young family to live. The open-plan design allowed them to define three zones: the living room-library, kitchen, and a children's bedroom block. The first two zones are located at the front of the house, facing a busy street and distinguished by original garage doors that the architects decided not to replace with a solid wall. The bedrooms were designed in the quiet part of the house, which opens to the back yard of the residence. The client allocated a very limited budget, which was almost entirely spent on the renovation of the new facades and kitchen. As a result, a kitchen with a six-meter marble countertop was created. The architects left the original concrete floor untreated, which together with steel doors reminds of the former destiny of the space.
