Concrete House in Japan
The architectural office FORM | Kouichi Kimura Architects has unveiled a private concrete house in Japan. The site is located along a road with high traffic volume, surrounded by a field, and adjacent to the client’s concrete plant and a traditional Japanese home where the client’s parents reside.
Entering the living room, a spacious volume greets visitors with natural overhead light. Concrete walls are interrupted by seamless glass inserts. A door in the passage can be opened or closed to create varied spatial experiences.
The living and dining areas, connected to each other, form a large open space where division into zones is achieved through variations in ceiling height and floor level. At the end of the day area, a terrace extension enhances the living room.
The same tile used indoors is also applied on the terrace to create a sense of continuity between interior and exterior elements.
