House in Japanese Style in Sweden
House in Japanese Style in Sweden
A private residence Sommarhus T was designed by the studio Johan Sundberg Arkitektur as a vacation home on the southern coast of Sweden. The project is based on Japanese architecture. The house located in a pine forest is designed for a family of four.
To help the house blend into the environment, the walls and terrace are clad in Siberian larch—favoured material of Johan Sundberg. The lower part of the roof is painted in a dark color to emphasize shadows. Sliding glass doors around the building were made possible thanks to surrounding trees that provide sufficient privacy.
Another characteristic element of a traditional Japanese house are rain chains hanging from the roof, which serve as a decorative alternative to downspouts.
Inside the building is divided into three volumes that together form a T-shaped layout. The idea was to give each space its own unique atmosphere, allowing different generations of the family to be in the house and around it simultaneously without disturbing each other.
On the eastern side of the house are living spaces and children's rooms, while on the western side is designed the main bedroom and an outdoor dining room.
All furniture for the house was specially designed by the architects for this project, and a local decorator created vibrant mobile elements such as chairs and tables.
