House Made of Plywood and Concrete in Australia
House Made of Plywood and Concrete in Australia
Project bureau Archterra Architects presented a private house Paddock in the coastal town of Margaret River, Australia. Built on a rye field among grazing cattle and leaping kangaroos with a view of the valley, this 170 square meter house is externally enclosed with cement sheets, providing a reliable and low-maintenance finish that contrasts with plywood in a warm tone, which continues inside the house and extends to the walls of concrete blocks, carpentry, and ceilings.
The main bedroom is designed as simply as possible. Children's rooms are equipped with raised and plywood-finished sleep platforms, under which work desks and play zones have been placed to maximize the functional space of these small rooms.
Sliding glass doors separate the living room and kitchen with a dining table from a covered terrace protected from wind and intense sunlight.
The garage and covered connection to the house are also built from high-strength and low-maintenance materials.
Ecological sustainability is an integral part of the project, with architects incorporating northern orientation, efficient ventilation paths, eaves overhangs, a heat pump for the hot water system, wastewater recycling, and a 4.5 kW solar panel array. The finished concrete floor slab and insulated wall blocks ensure warmth in winter and coolness in summer.
