Architects from SAOTA Studio designed a luxury villa on the island of Bali in Indonesia. The modern residence, inspired by local traditional architecture, is seamlessly integrated into a stunning natural setting. The villa sits high on a limestone cliff overlooking a wild, arid peninsula with a view of one of the world's best surfing beaches in Uluwatu.
The entrance courtyard with stone-clad walls and a grand staircase floating above a cascading water feature instantly conveys a sense of scale and grandeur. The living room, dining area, and covered terrace form the core of the day zone, drawing other pavilions and building blocks strategically placed among landscaped courtyards and terraces. The seamless integration of interior and exterior spaces is also a response to the region's variable climate. Zones with varying degrees of openness encourage natural cooling and ventilation.
Throughout the home, concrete textures and natural finishing materials coexist harmoniously with distinctive metal and wooden elements, including vertical screens and joinery. High-quality European furniture creates a sense of understated luxury blended with a modern approach to mid-century design.
