Guest House in a Chinese Village
Guest House in a Chinese Village
Project bureau WEI architects / Elevation Workshop worked on the renovation of a derelict house in a small Chinese village. The Springstream House project was inspired by the surrounding natural landscape and aims to create a residence that, like a tree, takes root in the earth. After renovation, the ruined two-story building with a nearby barn became a guest house with an area of 275 square meters.
As the main structural material, architects used wood from local species. Inside the house, a concrete floor with curved brass lines leads from the entrance to the kitchen and tea room on the right, while an inner courtyard is planned in front, and a living area is located on the left. According to local tradition, the hearth is considered the 'heart' of the house, so architects preserved its original location, rebuilding it according to local methods. At the same time, modern household appliances were installed on the opposite side of the kitchen. The adjacent building includes two bedrooms and a bathroom.
