House with 400-year history in Slovenia

Architect Lucija Penko, together with the project bureau Medprostor, carried out the renovation of the private house Kambra in Slovenia. The residence is located in a region with Mediterranean climate and rocky landscape, featuring endless vineyard plots and pine forests. The old abandoned 400-year-old barn stood in the center of a small village, its walls curving along a narrow road between neighboring houses. The building was approached thoughtfully, and during its transformation into a stylish living space, special attention was paid to original elements such as window and door frames, oak roof, and stone facade.

The main materials used in the project were simple and durable concrete, black iron, and natural oak surfaces. The treatment of joints between old and new elements, like scars, hint at the past and all that this house has endured.
