House in Tel Aviv by Pitsou Kedem Architects
This private house of 300 square meters, designed by Pitsou Kedem Architects in Tel Aviv, Israel, appears from a distance to be single-level. In reality, it sits on a platform that rises 60 centimeters above the ground, with an additional floor designed beneath. Eight steel frame structures spaced 2 meters apart support a concrete ceiling and frame the central space, reaching a height of 3.85 meters. Panoramic windows are mounted using steel beams, while an additional strip window above the beam creates a floating ceiling effect. A similar window is also designed between the platform and the lower level of the house, allowing light to enter in addition to the open central courtyard within the residence.
This abundance of openness and light is contrasted by four thick walls that outline different areas of the house, including the entrance hall, living room, and main bedroom. These walls are clad with thin slate panels that slightly overlap each other, giving a cohesive design to the Pavilion House.
