House in the Canadian Forest
The Cabane 217 project, developed by the architectural studio Bourgeois / Lechasseur Architects, has completely transformed the appearance of a house located in the Canadian town of Saint-Catherine-de-la-Jacques-Cartier, in a forested area bordering a river. The main idea of the design was to preserve the original national character of the building while simultaneously creating a modern residence that harmonizes with its surroundings.
The veranda protruding from the main part of the building serves as a kind of addition to the house. It features a fireplace, a symbol of comfort and solitude. This area acts as a link between the interior and the external environment. The kitchen has been fully redesigned. Wooden panels and flooring maintain a natural, warm atmosphere. A new bright and clean staircase leads to the upper floor. The main bedroom opens into a luxurious bathroom with a spa shower. Floor-to-ceiling windows in the bedroom give the impression of being on tree branches.
The original wooden cladding has been preserved and repainted. The windows are wooden, just like in the former home, and seem to blend smoothly into the panels of marine plywood, highlighting the introduction of new elements. The metal roof reflects sunlight and reminds us of the design inspiration drawn from tradition.
