Stone and Concrete House in Southern France
Private house La Mira Ra, designed by architect Pierre Minary, is located in southern France. The project is the result of long contemplation on the fusion of the wild nature of the Mediterranean and the minimalist purity of modern architecture.
The 350 square meter house features two levels, with the upper level including bedrooms and divided by a staircase opening in the center, leading to an inner courtyard with access to the residence. The first floor is designed with a main bedroom and living area with kitchen and dining room, all hidden from prying eyes. Its simple form made of unfinished concrete opens to the sea thanks to a fully glazed facade and terrace. Thus, the living spaces transform into a summer lounge—away from the scorching sun but still outdoors.
For protection against the sun, noise, and unwanted views, wooden blinds and sliding shutters are installed on the windows. The green roof provides additional thermal insulation while contributing to the integration of the house into its natural surroundings.
The open spaces of the project encourage further integration of the building into the natural environment, inviting walks around the premises, starting from the courtyard, circling the house, passing by the pool with a sea view, and descending to a desert garden showcasing the full floral diversity of the region.
