Unusual Wooden House by the Lake in Finland16 photos
The pyramidal roof, crowned with a fully glazed observation deck, defines the 'face' of the wooden house by VOID Architecture located near the Finnish town of Suomussalmi.
The best solution was a wooden building with a regular geometric form, embodying the balance of clean modern lines, traditional materials, and complex spatial solutions. The building stands on a steep lakeside and integrates seamlessly into the surrounding environment, making it an ideal place for various seasons and activities.
The main feature of the construction is the glazed observation deck at the top, designed not only to appreciate the tranquility and peace of the landscape but also as a central point. This serves as a coordination center for the entire living space, where natural light fills several levels of interior space.
From above, one can endlessly enjoy views of exceptional beauty; looking down from the observation deck, it seems as if the levels of the house are stacked one upon another. The fully glazed wall facing the lake adds extra volume to the main open area divided into two levels. The spiral staircase wrapping around the stone fireplace leads to a balcony and rightfully counts as a unique feature of the living room.
Other rooms include a kitchen zone, guest bedroom, sauna, and two bathrooms.
The house is equipped with underfloor heating in combination with a heating system. Its timber frame structure, clad in spruce wood, is insulated with natural materials, ensuring optimal comfort even during harsh Finnish winters.
The building also features internet-connected devices that provide full remote control over such functions as access, lighting, and heating.
