Winding streets, uneven terrain, and three-hundred-year-old trees shaped the initial form of this 15-apartment house in a Luxembourg district designed by METAFORM Architects. Due to the specific context—small residential buildings on one side and large apartment complexes on the other—the construction was divided into six vertically staggered blocks, allowing the building to blend organically with its surroundings. As a result, all blocks now face natural light, windows offer panoramic views, and the visual connection to the sky makes clouds part of the interior.
The building is constructed from massive reinforced concrete with a façade made of triangular aluminum panels. Walls are insulated with mineral wool, and triple-glazed windows in aluminum frames are embedded in the openings. Large glass surfaces are coated with special UV protective film to prevent overheating.
An important aspect of the building's energy concept is its orientation. Large openings are primarily located on the south and east facades, while the north facade is mostly closed. Under Luxembourg law, the structure is classified as energy-efficient (Class B-B). A centralized ventilation system and solar panels for hot water production are included in the project’s energy efficiency optimization plan.
The façade materials were chosen for minimal maintenance requirements.
