Villa on the Shore of Lake Maggiore in Switzerland22 photos
A villa designed by Wespi de Meuron Romeo Architetti is located in a notable urban context near the historic center of Ascona in Switzerland. It can be reached by car or on foot directly from the village, with the house surrounded by a romantic palm garden offering a breathtaking view over the roofs of Lake Maggiore and the mountains.
The building is stylistically unbound from the surrounding architecture but has a certain relation to the garden. The layout of the project takes into account the characteristics of the terrain and the structure of the terraced garden. The use of natural stone with traditional stonework (combined with fully rendered walls) gives the building a new identity and seamlessly integrates it into the garden and surroundings.
The stone masonry along the valley road is interrupted by a spacious entrance area with access gates and a parking area paved with natural stone. Additional technical and storage rooms are located underground behind a retaining wall.
From the entrance gates, a gentle rise leads to the lower level, from where access to any floor of the residence is possible. The house, shaped like a simple stone cube, harmonizes beautifully with the stone walls.
