Two Old Houses in China Transformed into Modern Residence

Studio Evolution Design undertook the renovation of two old rural houses located on the shore of one of the islands in Zhoushan, China.
The entire structure, covering an area of 265 square meters, includes three bedrooms situated in two renovated buildings and a studio converted from an old kitchen with a destroyed roof replaced by a glass ceiling.
A new concrete box was added to one of the houses, devoid of any artistic decoration. The choice of material was driven by the need to resist erosion caused by the harsh marine climate. This new space opens directly onto the sea and connects two levels—the upper one with the owners' bedroom and a lower one with guest rooms—making it logical for it to serve as a social zone designed for interaction and relaxation.
