House in Norwegian Village
The concept of the house in the Norwegian village Eidsvåg project by studio Rever & Drage was to transform an old building with a simple cellar and ten tiny rooms into functional living space. The building's owners wanted to preserve the traditional facade facing the road and other village buildings, but also desired a more open view toward the fjord and mountains. The original structure was built using a combination of construction materials, including both vertical and horizontal panel cladding. A wide glass panel has now been integrated into the southeast wall, offering panoramic views from the new kitchen.
A new low window was installed in the bedroom, allowing for scenic views while lying in bed. When standing upright, one can see the green fields nearby. Only the bedroom remains inside the dwelling, while most internal walls were removed so that the attic and first floor merged into one airy space.
A heated floor area, tiled for drying wet shoes, is provided. A new windproof membrane was installed in the walls to reduce heat loss. The wooden roof was placed over the existing corrugated iron roofing.
The result exceeded all expectations. The eastern facade looks harmonious despite different windows, thanks to a successful choice of materials and colors.
