Cozy 18-square-meter cabin on Stockholm archipelago island

On one of the islands in the Stockholm archipelago, a cabin was built by Anders Berensson Architects in the form of a simple box using local materials and construction techniques, as well as prefabricated architectural elements designed and manufactured by designers.

This gave rise to a tower with a window that can be accessed from the bed, and one corner window with a writing desk attached to it, serving as a workspace inside and a flower table outside. Gazing at the starry sky while falling asleep is a luxury one can afford in rural settings. The round tower enhances this feeling when lying in bed and simply contemplating the heavens above. During the day, the tower lets in plenty of light, making it a comfortable place to sit and read. At night, it's the perfect spot for stargazing and exploring space.

Externally, the tower is clad in wooden planks. There's a local tradition of carving patterns into such facades with a jigsaw, so the decision was made to create motifs of large animals, amphibians, birds, flowers, and fish that inhabit the archipelago and the Baltic Sea. The Stockholm archipelago is renowned for its fantastic wildflowers, and many of these can be found on the meadow near the building. The window immediately draws attention to this rich diversity. The ceiling made of pine boards continues smoothly beyond the window and protrudes outward enough to shield the room from direct sunlight, framing a picturesque view of the meadow.

On the exterior side of the table made from red clay, a special block with holes for planting flowers has been built. Inside, the table is made from birch boards with drilled holes of various purposes. Medium-sized holes are used for ventilation, cables, lamps, and pencils, while the smallest holes serve as pencil sharpeners.
