Villa in Ljubljana
Villa located in Trnovo, one of the central districts of Ljubljana, Slovenia, was expanded and renovated by OFIS Arhitekti studio. The small building was constructed in 1934 by the famous architect Emil Navinsek for his two unmarried sisters.
The new part of the building is clad in dark larch wood with a vertical lattice, which corresponds to the context of local street architecture. The old house was simply renovated, taking into account existing textures and materials.
The heart of the house—the crossing of volumes connecting the old and new parts—was the staircase running along the main vertical concrete wall.
Inspired by the interiors of Adolf Loos, architects filled the interior spaces of the house with various platforms, niches, built-in wardrobes and small relaxation areas.
