Four cylindrical towers rise upward on piles, creating this cozy retreat among dense trees in the suburbs of Cape Town (South Africa), designed by local studio Malan Vorster — Architecture Interior Design.
A light latticed shell made of vertical cedar strips covers the building on all sides, leaving large gaps around windows and becoming denser in other areas to ensure privacy for the home's occupants.
Inside, four structural columns mark the center of each rounded volume. These supports, as well as other details, are made from laser-cut sheet steel, to which wooden decking with copper elements is attached.
The architects left all materials unfinished with the intention that they would be naturally affected by weather and time, gradually becoming indistinguishable from the surrounding landscape.
The main living room occupies the first floor of the house, with its semi-circular protrusions accommodating various functions including a patio, dining niche, and main staircase.
The owners' bedroom located on the second floor features a large opening, enclosed only by a low glass balustrade offering views over green expanses below.
