High in a pine forest in northern Sweden, a new house has emerged as an addition to the renowned Treehotel. The architectural firm Snøhetta designed the seventh unique room for travelers seeking an unmatched nature vacation experience. The new structure rises 10 meters above ground level and mirrors the concept of a treehouse. Large panoramic windows offer views of the river, while an open wooden-grid terrace creates a new way to connect with nature. In The 7th Room project, the boundaries between interior and external environment are completely erased—the house is part of the forest, and the forest is part of the house.
The building's exterior is crafted in the traditional Scandinavian style for rural homes, using pine boards for cladding. The board charring technique achieves a darker color tone and minimizes facade maintenance needs.
Inside, birch plywood is used for wall finishes and ash wood for the floor. Carefully selected lighting fixtures, furniture pieces, and decor items together create a cozy Scandinavian atmosphere. Designers Ateljé Lyktan were responsible for the lighting design in this project.
The 55 square meter house includes two bedrooms, a spacious living room, bathroom, and terrace. It comfortably accommodates up to 5 guests. The varying levels of different zones give the interior a distinctive character. Skylights in the bedrooms let in sunlight during the day and offer stargazing views at night. For the most adventurous guests, a sleeping bag is provided so they can spend the night under the open sky.
