House on an Island off the Coast of Australia
French Island — a 192 square meter farmhouse located on a harsh, remote island off the coast of Victoria, Australia. The architects of Lai Cheong Brown studio based their design on the house's location on an island that is connected to mainland Australia only by ferry, where there are no utilities or amenities, and there are even no local government offices. Therefore, it was necessary to create a completely autonomous and self-sufficient home.
Constructed from steel and timber of strong Australian woods, the dwelling is elevated above the ground to provide unobstructed views of the bay and the island's hilly pastures.
