Apartment in Barcelona's Gothic Quarter
Nestled in the heart of Barcelona's Gothic Quarter, Spain, the studio YLAB Arquitectos took on the responsibility of renovating a 130-square-meter apartment located in a building recognized as part of the historical heritage.
The apartment is divided into two main areas: the open public area, which includes the entrance hall, kitchen, and living room, and the private area formed by the bedroom and bathroom.
The living room is situated in the center of the apartment, connecting the rooms to one another. The kitchen is designed as a gathering place rather than just a dining area, being both convenient and elegant, reflecting the influence of traditional Barcelona cafés. The ceiling and the longitudinal wall starting from the entrance hall are clad with manually assembled panels made of tinted pine boards.
The owners' bedroom, simple and intimate in its ambiance, connects to the bathroom via a corridor. Since this is the only bathroom in the apartment, the doors were designed so that the corridor connects both the bedroom and the living room.
The bathroom is a space for relaxation, intimate and sensual, opening onto an inner courtyard. The walls are clad with glossy panels that hide storage spaces and visually emphasize the freestanding round bathtub. The shower and toilet area are separated by frosted glass.
