Forest Cabins in Brazil

Specifically for Catuçaba, architects from the MAPA studio developed two modular homes - MINIMOD Catuçaba. These are minimalist living cabins, each with an area of 42 square meters, manufactured at a factory in the suburbs of São Paulo, transported to the construction site, and installed using a crane.

Both cabins, like the entire MINIMOD series, are made from eco-friendly material - cross-laminated timber (CLT panels), which combines the benefits of modern technology with the pleasant qualities of natural wood that humans perceive.

The development and production of MINIMOD structures began in 2009. Their first prototype was built and installed among the wild southern landscape of Porto Alegre. Both projects presented at Fazenda Catuçaba belong to the new generation of MINIMOD.

The two MINIMOD cabins are located in different places, one kilometer apart from each other, and feature varying spatial configurations in accordance with their position within the landscape.

One stands on top of a hill and has a cross-shaped layout. Thanks to this, each part of the dwelling faces one of the cardinal directions through its glazed end wall, allowing for a panoramic view of nature as day and night, sunrise and sunset change.

The second is positioned along a slope, facing away from the road and opening towards a small pond. The shelter is hidden among lush vegetation. Using the same number of basic modules as in the cross-shaped cabin, the second structure is arranged linearly. In addition to glazed end facades like in the first cabin, the elongated cabin has large glazed openings on its side walls adjacent to a wide wooden terrace.
