Apartment in Japanese Style, 168 sqm in Almaty

The apartment was designed for a young man fascinated by the East, specifically Japan. This became the starting point for creating an interior in this style. The overall layout of the existing apartment did not correspond to the basics of Japanese philosophy, but using techniques of space formation by Japanese masters, it was possible to give the interior a certain spirit of asceticism and restraint. The main space of the apartment is divided not into rooms, but into "functional zones" using screens and traditional arches, as well as floor level differences.

Screens make the apartment's space light and transparent; rearranging them allows updating the interior every day. A rice lamp, tatami mats made of straw, cushions with stone patterns created a cozy corner separating from the noise and hustle of modern life. The special color of the interior is given by Japanese samurai armor, which greets guests right at the entrance. These are authentic pieces, specially brought from Japan. Lighting in a Japanese-style interior is also part of the composition. A Japanese home cannot be submerged in darkness. Soft and diffused light should highlight the few items of interior design, emphasizing their uniqueness and significance.
