Although a wreath made from fir branches is one of the symbols of Christmas and New Year, the tradition of decorating homes with such wreaths came to us relatively recently. Today, such a wreath can be bought anywhere where Christmas ornaments are sold. But if you want to truly uniquely and creatively decorate your home for New Year's holidays, it is better to make several exclusive wreaths for interior decoration by hand. It can be made from fir branches, ribbons and a dowel, or even from something more unusual. Here is a small tutorial on making a wreath from pinecones and yarn.

For the work, we will need:

  • pinecones, which it is better to wash and dry beforehand;
  • newspaper, scissors, stapler, paint;
  • PVA glue;
  • vivid yarn;
  • ribbons, beads, crystals or glitter for decoration.

After gathering everything necessary and preparing the materials, you can start working. First, roll up newspapers into a dense tube, bend it into a ring and secure with a stapler. Then cut the newspaper into strips and wrap our preparation to form a dense newspaper ring. You can also wrap it with tape for extra security. When the base is ready, paint it with silver paint. It is best to use aerosol automotive paint for this purpose. Just remember, in this case, painting is better done in the entrance or outdoors, not indoors.

Now you need to prepare the pinecones for gluing onto the base. To do this, cut off their tops so they look fuller. Start gluing the pinecones first along the contour, gradually filling the entire surface of our wreath. It is easier to do this with a glue gun for crystals, but you can also get by with regular glue.

To create the appearance of snow, you can lightly splash some white acrylic paint over the pinecones or sprinkle the wreath with glitter, first spraying it with hair lacquer. If you have artificial snow, you can use that too, just don’t overdo it.

Let the paint and glue dry. Our wreath is ready, and we can now proceed to making decorations for it. Let's make several different figures from yarn as decorations. For this, cut out a figure from paper, place it on some kind of backing such as a food container, and poke holes around the contour with toothpicks. Now you need to mix some PVA glue with water in equal proportions in a glass, tie a piece of yarn to a toothpick and dip it into the solution for about a minute. Remove the yarn from the glue and carefully lay it out along the toothpicks, filling in the center with spirals. Press it down and leave to dry.

After removing our ornaments from the toothpicks, you can dust them with glitter or glue crystals to them. Now attach the yarn figures along with other ornaments — these can be beads, small toys, ribbons — to the wreath.

There is just one final touch. Twist a bit of ribbon or decorative tape into an eight and glue it together. Make a second eight from ribbon. Form a bow and glue it carefully, hiding the ends. You can make a loop from the same ribbon so that the wreath can be hung on a door or wall.

Decorate the wreath with a bow and it’s ready! Now you can decorate your home with it and enjoy the New Year's mood. You can make several such wreaths with different finishes. Come up with your own ideas for decorating the wreath. If you have children, you can make New Year decorations together with them. Such a wreath is not difficult to make, so it will be within the reach of a child too.
