This mountain cabin, like a story script, could not be anywhere else but the Aran Valley. The responsibility for the interior lies with interior designer Carmen Kaubet — a lover of the region and its architectural traditions. She used all her experience for the renovation, with the main task being to restore the original wood. Repainted beams, columns, doors and other wooden elements were dark and outdated. This is the story of how Carmen brought light back to them.

50 YEARS OF WARMTH (AND WOOD)

This house is about 50 years old and was completely renovated a few years ago. All original material — fir or pine — was initially very dark. Sandblasting technique is used, which returns the wood to its original appearance on doors, ceilings and windows. Behind the sofa, an individual bookshelf was installed through a gap in the paneling, maintaining the color of the entire room.

BEST DECORATING TIP

It's best to stick to a unified tone in shades to keep the whole apartment in a harmonious color range. In this mountain cabin in Eres Pleta, at the heart of the Aran Valley, this can be seen: beige and grey tones predominate, resulting in an incredibly comfortable atmosphere.

WOOD WARMTH

Furthermore, to fully lighten the wood, Carmen's team treated it with special lacquers that prevent fading over time. In this way, they achieved natural and clean tones where there was previously dull brown and uneven gloss.

LIVING ROOM, DINING ROOM AND KITCHEN TOGETHER

After this work, the designer decided to choose light oak wood for furniture and other details she would introduce in the renovation — such as a wide plank oak floor used throughout the house and creating incredible coziness.

Cooking Here Is Luxury

We come to the kitchen without any doors or partitions. It was custom-made from solid oak with a steel range hood and matching countertop made of rustic Silestone.
