How to Organize a Balcony: Tips from a Real-Life Example
Today we begin writing about city balconies and their decoration. We’ll look at a balcony designed by designer Yekaterina Chistova for a family of four.
Objective
The clients wanted a winter garden to appear on the balcony. I aimed to create a relaxing retreat with a beautiful view of the park. The balcony features a heated floor, wicker furniture, a bookshelf, and of course, flowers.

Finishing
For the floor, I used an interesting ceramic tile with images of newspaper articles, and for the walls, textured tiles resembling brick.
Insulation
We replaced all windows with triple-glazed ones to retain heat and improve sound insulation; all walls and ceiling were insulated, and a heated floor was installed.

Reconfiguration
Access to the balcony is from both rooms in the apartment, so it was crucial to make it an extension of the interior, not just a storage space. From the bedroom side, we removed the window sill block and installed a French window with sliding doors, making the bedroom brighter. After insulation, the balcony became slightly narrower, but this was a necessary step for comfortable year-round use.

Result
The result exceeded all our expectations—the balcony became very bright, warm, and cozy. Even in winter, one can enjoy reading a good book with a cup of tea here.
