Bold choices and vibrant colors: outdated bathrooms were transformed into stylish and comfortable spaces

A bathroom during renovation becomes a challenge: aesthetics are important, but thoughtful ergonomics are crucial, especially if the space is small, has complex geometry, or outdated finishes. These very cases often become the most interesting ones: after updating, the look changes beyond recognition.

We show how designers and owners tackled the task and turned typical bathrooms into vibrant and functional spaces.

Bathroom where vintage meets modern

In this Moscow Stalin-era apartment, the bathroom before renovation looked dark and outdated: dull tiles, cramped space, and inefficient layout created a feeling of clutter. After the redesign, the room transformed: space was allocated for a washing machine, storage cabinet, and neat textiles.

The walls are now partially painted in light tones, and part of the finish is made of ceramic granite with a complex shape: this design element makes the interior visually interesting and architecturally expressive.

Mix of nature and creativity

The bathroom in a Moscow Brezhnev-era apartment surprises with how much warmth and originality can be created by hand. Instead of a full renovation, the tiles were repainted and panels imitating tiles were added, while the usual cabinet was replaced with an updated bedside table.

The homeowner transformed it into an unusual washbasin with a curtain and pipe recess. The towel holder is a decorative wooden ladder, and a mini lawn was installed above the toilet. All of this combined with green accents creates the feeling of a green oasis right in the middle of the apartment.

New bathroom in a historical house

In an apartment located in a pre-revolutionary income house, the main bathroom was successfully expanded by using the hallway without compromising the integrity of the space. All elements are arranged compactly but without sacrificing comfort: a spacious bathtub, washing machine, sink cabinet, and suspended cabinet are all part of one functional ensemble.

The walls are enhanced with storage niches, and a calm palette with thoughtful lighting gives the interior an atmosphere of comfort. The result is a recreated modern relaxation zone without compromising the historical spirit.

Second life for retro

This project proves that even a small bathroom in a typical apartment can come alive with new colors. The bathroom before renovation looked typical: outdated tiles, obsolete coatings, and worn-out plumbing fixtures. Designer Elena Vertiy proposed a creative solution: part of the walls were finished with moisture-resistant wallpaper and coated with protective lacquer.

The cast iron bathtub was not replaced but gently restored: now it is the main character of the interior. Stylish mixers and vintage accents completed the design. The result is an atmospheric space that perfectly balances old and new.

Practicality and style

Working on the bathroom turned out to be the most challenging part of the renovation: compact space and inconvenient layout prevented the original plan from including a radiator. Instead, a towel warmer was added that now serves both as a drying unit and for heating.

Ceramic granite was chosen for finishing: it withstands moisture and visually organizes the interior. These thoughtful choices make this functional space look very stylish.
