Before and After: A Stunning Transformation of a Kitchen-Living Room in a Moscow Stalin-era Apartment
A vibrant and functional space where modern design harmoniously blends with classic and ethnic elements
The kitchen-living room in a Moscow Stalin-era apartment underwent a remarkable transformation thanks to the design of Anastasia Agadzhanova. Before renovation, the kitchen was merely a worn-out and featureless space, lacking structure and character. The apartment's interior did not match its potential, but thanks to thoughtful reconstruction and a harmonious blend of styles, the new space became an embodiment of elegance and functionality.
Photo of the kitchen before renovationOne of the key decisions was combining the kitchen and living room, which allowed highlighting the main area of the apartment and creating a more open and spacious environment.

The kitchen was custom-made, taking into account all the needs of the homeowners. Built-in panels for household appliances, a special spot for an ironing board, and a concealed gas pipe behind cabinet shelves—all of this creates a functional and harmonious atmosphere. For storing the owner's beautiful tableware, cabinets with vitrines were designed, which not only serve as storage but also become an interesting accent in the interior.

It was important to preserve the architecture of the Stalin-era house, particularly the stone masonry, which now blends harmoniously with modern elements. For flooring, technomass was chosen, meeting the clients' demands for natural and practical materials. Graphical partitions, textiles, and tiles with bold patterns were also used to enliven the space and set a dynamic rhythm.

Neoclassical details—moldings, false fireplaces, and wall panels—add touches of luxury to the interior, while live plants and brick masonry create a cozy atmosphere and a connection with nature.

All family members are Leo zodiac signs, which inspired the creation of a unique interior concept. Modern, ethnic, and royal elements blend beautifully in this project, named "The Lion's Kingdom." Each corner reflects the individuality and character of the family, creating not only a beautiful but also harmonious living space.
