Before and After: Amazing 5.7 sqm Kitchen in Old Building
Inspiration, beautiful and unconventional design solutions
This kitchen is located in a very atmospheric loft in a 1926 building. Designer Anna Kirillova was tasked with creating a modern functional space while preserving the spirit of the past. We show how the kitchen was transformed after renovation.

At the beginning of the project, the kitchen looked dull: outdated finishing, peeling paint, crooked furniture — the space urgently needed a capital repair.
The house is gasified, so a sliding glass partition was installed between the kitchen and living room. It looks visually light and does not overload the space.

The kitchen with an area of 5.7 sqm retained its compact dimensions but acquired a new layout. The cabinet with milk-white doors looks clean and stylish. A gas stove was replaced with a compact two-burner cooktop. A microwave oven is placed where the oven usually goes, and a refrigerator is built into a niche in the place of the former hallway.

The main feature of the kitchen is a functional countertop made of Laminated Particle Board (LDP) in the form of shelves. All shelves can be pulled out to access the gas pipe. The shelves are equipped with lighting that looks very beautifully and dramatically. Shelves are convenient for storing spices or decor. This is not a typical solution, but since the owner rarely cooks, it's justified.

Storage is organized in upper cabinets arranged in two rows. Drawers for spoons and various kitchen accessories are provided under the countertop in the breakfast area. Additional cabinets are also located above the refrigerator.

The countertop in a contrasting black color is made of quartz aggregate. It runs along the windowsill and creates a comfortable breakfast zone. The windowsill is made of the same material but at different levels compared to the countertop, which gives a sense of unity in space.
