What to do if the wrong room shapes make it hard to install storage systems? And how to deal with insufficient light? We show you an example of a Swedish studio apartment

The area of this apartment is only 36 square meters. But it has almost everything necessary for life. And what's missing, you can always add. We explain how.

This color perfectly masks the awkward angled space in the apartment. Besides, it visually expands the rooms and adds light — there's not much of it here due to small windows.

It also unifies and expands the space. The floor was chosen dark to contrast with the snow-white walls and draw attention away from the faulty layout.

Designers decided that in a small apartment, it's better to define spaces with color. So they chose bright kitchen fronts in ocean wave colors. By the way, the cabinetry is standard — IKEA. Agree, it looks much more impactful with bright fronts.

Great solution if you need to isolate the bedroom but don't want to build additional walls. Glass lets in natural light, and the interior looks more airy. You can add curtains to make the bedroom private.

Contrast details helped draw attention away from the incorrect layout and add dynamics to a monochrome interior.

Graphics in black and white frames, a pair of opposite-colored chairs and coffee tables added dynamics. Windows and fireplace were done in a similar way, emphasizing black window sills and fireplace shelves.

That’s a problem in this apartment: it will be rented out, and tenants will have to solve this issue themselves. A wardrobe in the hallway could have been installed, but the vaulted ceiling interferes.

We would have solved this issue like this: instead of a regular bench in the corridor, we would have installed a small shelf and cabinet system. It could also be enhanced with a mirror and seating area. We would have chosen a sofa and bed with internal storage spaces and added shelves in the bedroom.
