Owners of this small flat approached the renovation seriously: they lived in the apartment for two years before starting the renovation. And they planned everything so well that they completed all the work in just two months.

Owners of this small flat in Sydney are married couple Sofia and Josh Bowers. Sofia is an interior designer, Josh is a stylist. After purchasing their new home, the couple decided not to rush with the renovation and lived in the apartment for two years, thinking through every detail.

The layout turned out to be problematic, and there was little space, so we planned the renovation for a full twenty months! But once it came to doing the work, they finished in just two months.

Since the apartment was small, for Sofia and Josh, functionality was more important than aesthetics. To make the space feel more spacious, the couple decided to remove the wall between the kitchen and living room.

Now there's enough space on the tiny kitchen for a dishwasher and washing machine, plus an oven and extra freezer. Even under the dining table, there's storage space built into the bench.

Space zoning in the kitchen-living room area was achieved through finishing touches: the kitchen is on a small podium made of bone-white tiles. In the living room area, the floor features wooden planks.

The interior was decorated in an Art Deco style — light floors and walls made perfect background for vibrant accents. Furniture was chosen in the same era’s style, and a lot of attention was paid to decor — color contrasts are everywhere in this interior.

If you look closely, you can notice how ashen-pink chair legs on the kitchen side harmonize with peachy tones in the living room. Grey kitchen cabinets and matching tiles blend well with the sofa’s upholstery.

For us, the key was a holistic approach, ensuring that one room "worked" with another. Therefore, every item in the interior, from dining chairs to towels, was carefully selected to complement each other.

In the bedroom, compared to the overall color palette, more muted tones were used. However, here too, brass fixtures echo the bright details in the kitchen.

And in the bathroom, the main accent is a countertop for the sink made of Norwegian pink marble. The shower partition made from ribbed glass echoes the transparent doors of the kitchen cabinets. Just like salmon-colored tiles in the bathroom — these same shades can also be seen on the kitchen backsplash.

We finished the renovation about a year ago. If we could rewind time, we wouldn’t change anything.
