Any bathroom can be transformed into a stylish space. See for yourself how Russian designers did it

Bathroom renovation often involves dismantling partitions, finishing materials, and replacing all utilities. But don't despair: owners of apartments in this selection gave their utility rooms a second life with the help of professionals.

Bathroom with Washing Machine in Khrushchyovka

Marina Merenkova had to work hard with the layout of a bathroom in a tiny apartment in a khrushchyovka. In previous apartments, a homemade radiator with a tap was hanging instead of a towel rack, and the toilet stood almost right next to the washing machine, making it inconvenient to use.

"We installed a special sink with a flat trap above the washing machine and freed up space for the toilet. The most unexpected thing was the pipe box in the bathroom. We all, including the builders, thought that the risers were behind it. But when we started demolition, it turned out that this was part of a load-bearing wall, and the risers were in the neighbors' apartments. We had to get acquainted with our neighbors,"— the designer explains.

Bathroom with Bathtub in Stalin-era Apartment

Before the renovation, a tiny bathroom in a Stalin-era apartment had no room for a washing machine and boiler. Designer Natalia Solo expanded the area by using the corridor and chose a unified color palette to make the space feel larger.

Bathroom Redesign in an Old Brick House

As a result of a radical redesign of the apartment in a brick house, designers from Mikhail Novinsky's studio created two bathrooms instead of one. The interior is unrecognizable: instead of plain beige walls, they used gray "hog" and concrete-style tiles, adding color with blue paint.

Combined Bathroom in Stalin-era Apartment

During the renovation in this apartment, complications arose: employees of the gas service did not allow relocating the gas water heater because the pipes in the bathroom led to neighbors. Therefore, Marina Merenkova left the water heater in place but moved the mixers to the opposite wall. Above the installation and opposite the toilet, the designer planned storage cabinets for household items.

Standard Bathroom Without Redesign

In this bathroom, designer Maria Bezrukova chose not to redesign and kept the standard furniture layout. However, she selected multifunctional furniture: a mirror-cabinet and a sink with a storage unit for organizing storage.
