What Does Claude Monet's House Look Like and How to Spend a Vacation There?

The small village of Giverny, where Claude Monet lived and created art for nearly forty years, is located 80 km from Paris. Local landscapes became the subject of 45 of his paintings. It's no surprise that today, fans of his work come to this atmospheric place to see the painter's landscapes in person.

Monet's paintings are easily recognizable by their characteristic clean tones — he worked with a simple palette, and achieved natural color through white and cream primer coats applied to the canvas. He believed that it was precisely light primer that allowed him to emphasize the brightness of colors.

In this village, there's plenty to see — for example, the artist's museum and garden, cozy restaurants, and, of course, nature. You can stay here not only in a hotel but also in one of the houses that belonged to Monet himself.

In 2016, the house was completely renovated — on a 200 sq. m area, three bedrooms and three bathrooms were arranged. Now it has all the amenities for guests, from a washing machine to fire alarm systems. The interior features modern furniture, yet the owners managed to preserve authenticity.

All the essentials for comfortable living are here: appliances, shower cabins, bathtubs, beds with comfortable mattresses. The owners also took care to keep the interior functional for guests.

Comodes and wardrobes were placed in every room, and the overall and local lighting was thoughtfully planned. In one bedroom, a shower cabin was placed right in the room — it looks unusual and saves space.

To keep the atmosphere unique, the owners preserved much of the original interior design.

For example, the kitchen tiles and wooden floors in the rooms, the staircase on the second floor, and double French doors were only restored. The interior is full of antique furniture and décor — special atmosphere is created by solid wooden commodes and frames with wide mirrors.

The owners decorated the house following the same principles Claude Monet was devoted to in his paintings. An Impressionist interior cannot be gloomy; it must contain lots of light and air.

The white color was used as the base — not only the facade but also the interior walls were made light. A focus was placed on an abundance of natural light, different textures, vibrant decorative elements, and a wealth of small details that form the overall picture of the house.
