Kitchen renovation 4.5 sqm in a Khrushchyovka by yourself
Take a look at how charming the interior turned out: bright, spacious, with a stylish wide windowsill serving as a workspace with a secret
Today we look at a small typical kitchen in a five-story Khrushchyovka. The challenge of organizing a convenient space was the area – just 4.5 square meters! But Dasha and Dima Tretiyakvs, the owners of this apartment, successfully solved the task. They did the entire renovation by themselves. It turned out very ergonomically, stylishly and budget-friendly.

This is how the kitchen looked before the renovation – a completely destroyed space with an inconvenient shape. The team had to move the door opening to another wall to utilize more useful area.

The windowsill area was raised. Now there's a large working surface.

Small spaces heat up quickly from the stove and oven. Therefore, the team decided to get rid of the radiator on the kitchen. They left only the pipes which were covered with gypsum board. This created a small storage space under the countertop.

To save space on the work surface, Dasha installed a microwave oven on a suspended shelf.

They wanted to get rid of closed wall-mounted cabinets completely. But real-life necessities require somewhere to store dishes. The upper row of cabinets took its honored place on the left wall of the kitchen. The central view went to decorative open shelves – Dasha stores spices in beautiful jars there.

The presence of a dishwasher in the family was not discussed – it was Dasha's long-time dream. It was installed next to the electric oven. By the way, the cooktop here is gas-powered.
Dasha didn't cover the area around the sink at all. As in the whole apartment, the walls here are simply painted. Maintaining them is easy – just wipe with a damp cloth.

Lighting on the kitchen is simple enough: pendant lights above the main work surface, spotlights around the perimeter and on the exhaust fan.

At Dasha's kitchen, we also spotted an original way to store wine corks. These are hollow loft-style letters that gradually fill up. This idea looks stylish and fresh 👍.
