Unusual finishes or furniture, bright decor or contrasting lighting fixtures — we tell you what unique techniques designers used in their projects

We love to look at designers' projects and notice interesting details that make an interior stylish and unique. We also select items that help create a similar atmosphere in your home.

Texture variety

A key requirement from clients was to make the living room a space for communication, not TV watching. The designers from Aiya Design proposed creating a neutral interior and focusing on combinations of diverse textures.

In one room, they paired natural cotton and linen, soft carpet pile with a pleasant-to-the-touch wood. The wall painting ties all the colors of the interior together, and the bright spot is a raspberry-colored armchair.

Large details

In this interior everything is big: from ceiling height and windows to decor. The designer Diana Mal'tseva's idea was to create a minimalist background using high-quality finishing materials, and then add accents in furniture and accessories.

For the walls, they chose water-emulsion paint in various shades of gray. For decor, large pear-shaped lampshades and mirrors with complex geometric shapes worked perfectly.

Home library

The feature of this living room is a huge 2000-book library. Its owners don’t fear open shelves, they liked the idea of making books part of the interior design. As a result, there’s a storage system about 40 linear meters long, designed to accommodate even more personal books.

"The tone of the interior decoration was set by light walls, warm natural wood tones and live plants. They are complemented by colorful book ends," — explains designer Dmitry Sivak.

Mid-century modern furniture

The overall color palette of this living room turned out soft and calm, dominated by restrained tones. The designers from OM Design decided to add a touch of fun and painted the partition between the bedroom and living room salmon pink. Opposite the sofa, a large painting based on Joan Miró's work "Woman and Bird" was placed.

Furniture items were chosen from wood and always on legs. They visually look lighter, making the interior appear more airy. They opted for light Roman blinds instead of dense drop-down curtains. "Exposed" windows were framed with veneered panels.

Scandinavian Style Decor

For wall finishing, they chose textured plaster in gray tones, and laid parquet flooring. The designers are not fans of mixing different materials for the floor in one room, so the flooring is uniform throughout.

"Clients leaned towards a strict color palette: gray shades became the main tone. For accents, they added dark turquoise color: for curtains and patterned carpet in the living room. When selecting furniture, they focused on functionality, simple design and universal finishes. Against this background, decor, modern paintings and posters look great — all of it can be changed according to mood," — the project authors explain.

Contrast Details

For the living room, they mainly used monochromatic gray paint. This helped visually make the space bigger, cleaner and more minimalist. But contrast black details bring dynamism to the neutral interior: metal loft partition, black chairs in retro style, metal lights and black-and-white textiles. The interior looks graphic but very cozy.
