Adorn the chandelier
Try using New Year garlands and ornaments... on a chandelier. You can also decorate it with fir branches: the process won't take much time but will add a festive mood.

Use aromatic candles
Candles are an ideal way to fill your home with a holiday feeling. The best 'New Year' scents are citrus, cinnamon, chocolate, and vanilla. Don't forget about the scent of fir needles — it's just what you need if you've set up an artificial Christmas tree in your apartment.

Place mini Christmas trees throughout the apartment
If you don't have the energy or desire to decorate a large tree, choose small decorative trees. Besides, they are much more budget-friendly than tall, lush Christmas trees.

Forget about plastic
Plastic ornaments create holiday gimmicks — they don't shine or ring. Replace them with glass ornaments, or improvise with candy or gingerbread decorations.

How do professionals decorate homes?
Marina Poklonskaya: 'Decoration doesn't have to be expensive'
Marina Poklonskaya is a designer. Graduate of the International School of Design, she founded her own design studio.
I begin planning decoration ideas as early as the beginning of December. I define a color scheme — in what shades will the ornaments be, and a theme — what exactly I want to decorate my home and tree with. Then I start actively searching for the necessary decor. It doesn't have to be expensive ornaments from trendy boutiques.
For example, for a retro-style tree I looked for interesting postcards from the past, visited flea markets in search of vintage items. The special charm comes from postcards featuring old advertisements and small retro candy boxes with cookies, pastilles. The absolute hit is matchboxes — the key is to attach beautiful ribbons.
Matchboxes can be easily made yourself from cardboard. You can hide surprises inside them: candies, coins, beautiful ornaments, notes with wishes. The holiday will turn into an interesting game of searching for desired souvenirs.
I also try to stick to the chosen color palette in home decoration. For example, turquoise and white — these colors I chose for a thematic decor. Angel wings with white down helped add magic — it turned out soft and beautiful.
Anna Poshchaneyeva: 'I decorate my apartment with handmade items'
Anna Poshchaneyeva is a designer. Designer at the In my box studio.
Besides the traditional Christmas tree with garlands and beautiful ornaments on it, I decorate my apartment with handmade items.
For example, I fill vases with fir or pine branches decorated with synthetic snow from a spray. I mix the composition with cones painted with gold paint from a can, unpeeled walnuts, cinnamon sticks tied with beautiful ribbons. Decorative flowers, large bright beads, and small Christmas ornaments also work well.
Instead of a vase, you can use a woven basket and add LED candles. Or create a New Year composition with candles of different heights — just place them on a tray and decorate with New Year decorations.
